Brian wandered down to the pub and enjoyed a couple of mugs before stepping out into the cold air. He decided Catherine had been alone with her thoughts long enough. It was time for another round. He breathed a contented sigh. It was proving to be most satisfying having Catherine Campbell… no, Catherine Ramsey… available to fulfill his every desire. He hadn’t dreamed he’d enjoy it so much.

Starting home, he had another thought. It would add insult to injury if he could report that he’d watched her family being evicted into the cold night air… and had done nothing to stop it. Yes, this would be fun to watch. He almost danced as he made his way down the street to the Campbell hovel.

As he approached, he kept to the shadows, not wanting them to see him… yet. But he was shocked and outraged to watch as John White laid Catherine’s invalid sister into a cart. He was incensed to see that Catherine’s family was not going to be in the street, after all. That meddling John White was ruining his plans. This was unacceptable!

He started to leave his hiding place to confront them, but changed his mind. This situation required more than a mere verbal confrontation. Now was not the time to rush in. He needed to confer with his father. This would take planning, but John White would pay for this. Meanwhile, his wife would feel the fire of his rage tonight.
